PORT LOUIS, Aug 6: Director Indira Gandhi Centre of Indian Culture (IGCIC), Balwant Thakur met High Commissioner of India to Mauritius, K. Nandni Shingla at the Embassy of India in Ebene.
Thakur apprised the High Commissioner about his diplomatic vision and the cultural initiatives he is going to take in bringing two nations together.
Having worked in South Africa as Cultural Diplomat of India while heading Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Johannesburg, Thakur very interestingly vibrated the entire cultural scene of South Africa and wanted that experience to multiply further in Mauritius.
IGCIC Phoenix which Thakur is currently heading is World’s biggest Cultural Centre, spread over 20000 square mts housing auditoriums, studios, seminar halls, exhibition spaces, library and resource centres and desired this opportune space and world class cultural infrastructure to be used to the maximum.
He apprised the High Commissioner about his prospective plans which will make IGCIC as one of the most happening global centre of Indian culture.
The Centre runs regular classes in yoga, music, dance and theatre and has over 2000 students learning Indian arts while a series of events have been lined up to celebrate India @75 in Mauritius.
Balwant Thakur is the first person from J&K to reach the high profile cultural position of the country.
His appointment to this most sought after position has been hailed by the entire cultural fraternity of the country and now eyes are set at him to see his abilities vibrating the entire Mauritius culturally.
