Balwant addresses global audiences on World Theatre Day

JAMMU, Mar 26: Balwant Thakur- the Cultural Diplomat of India to Mauritius who is currently heading world’s biggest cultural centre today addressed the global audience on the eve of World Theatre Day at the main auditorium of IGCIC, Mauritius.
While underlining the importance of celebrating this world day of theatre and dwelling at length about the world theatre scene, he made very interesting references glorifying Indian theatre. Terming theatre as an important tool of shaping the society, he stressed on the need of its promotion in the larger interest of raising the conscious level of the civil society.
Continuing further Balwant Thakur said that World Theatre Day is a celebration for those who can see the value and importance of this great art from “Theatre” and act as a wakeup call for governments, politicians, and institutions which have not yet recognized its value to the people and to the individual and have yet not realized it’s potential for overall socioeconomic cultural development.
Referring to his own city, Jammu in particular, Balwant Thakur said that people out there need to take pride in the fact that it is theatre which gave that region a new cultural, linguistic and intellectual identity.
