JAMMU, Apr 23: As a part of endeavours to create infrastructural facilities in the Forest Department, Minister for Forest, Ecology & Environment, Bali Bhagat inaugurated two buildings in the premises of State Forest Research Institute (SFRI) at Janipur, here today.
The buildings constructed at a cost of Rs. 88.83 lakh comprises of a separate residential accommodation for the visiting researchers and office accommodation for the Seed Divisional Office.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that Government is committed to provide better working environment and infrastructural facilities in the offices for the smooth functioning. He said efficiency in the functioning can only be achieved if the employees are provided better facilities and working environment. He called upon the officers to put in their best efforts to achieve the desired goals.
While interacting with the officers associated with the research work, the Minister asked them to develop varieties which have higher sustainable rate in the tropical and sub-tropical environment in Jammu division. He asked for trying new varieties of plants which have fast growth and income generating values.
He also stressed the need for a coordinated approach to preserve the environmental aspects and promoting the forests with missionary spirit. He said forests are lifeline of Jammu and Kashmir and need of the hour is to protect them from degradation.
Director, SFRI, U. Pachnanda briefed the Minister about the functioning and activities being carried out by the Institute. He also apprised about the new research initiatives taken by the Institute.
Those present on the occasion included, Principal Secretary Forest, R.K. Gupta, Principal Chief Conservative of Forest, A.K. Singh, Chief Wildlife Warden, Deepak Khanna, Chairman, J&K Pollution Control Board, Abdul Razzak, Director, State Forest Protection Force, Suresh Gupta, Chief Conservator of Forest, Jammu, Asif M. Sagar and other senior officers of the Forest Department.
