KATHUA, Sept 23: Senior Congress leader and former Legislator, Thakur Balbir Singh today strongly pleaded for separate constituency for the Kandi belt of Kathua district including Dinga Amb tehsil and adjoining Jasrota belt.
The former MLC, who conducted extensive tour of the Kandi belt of Dinga Amb, Mangloor, Sallan, Katli, Parangoli, Jathana, Jasrota and other areas, said that it is the popular demand of the people from this Kandi belt to have separate Assembly constituency.
Singh said the people from this Kandi belt alleged that being part of Billawar constituency, they remained deprived of the better development. Most of the villages falling in this belt are still reeling under acute shortage of water. There is urgent need to upgrade power infrastructure in the area. Moreover, the poor road connectivity has made life of the people miserable.
They also alleged that respective public representatives, mostly focused on the upper belt of this constituency, neglecting Kandi. The people of this Dinga Amb-Jasrota Kandi belt are feeling deprived the development. The people during public meetings requested the former legislator to strongly project this issue before the concerned authorities.
The Ex-MLC said that he was already aware of the major issues of the area and tried his best during his tenure as MLA and MLC to address the issues of this belt. While stressing the need for creation of separate Kandi constituency, Balbir Singh assured people to project this issue before the concerned authorities. He also assured to take up the issues of water, power supply and better road connectivity in Kandi area with the concerned higher authorities.
