HIRANAGAR, May 21: Member of Legislative Council (MLC) and senior Congress leader Thakur Balbir Singh today lambasted BJP led NDA Government at the Centre and PDP-BJP Coalition in the State for backstabbing border residents who had voted over-whelming to the Saffron Party in 2014 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections with a hope that their issues would be solved.
He, however, regretted border residents now were feeling cheated and hoodwinked by the power hungry BJP leadership which has shamelessly forget all the promises made to the helpless people living on the International Border as well as on the Line of Control.
Addressing a function at border village of Jarai, situated on the International Border (IB) in Hiranagar Assembly segment in presence of Ex- MLA Hiranagar, Girdhari Lal Chalotra and block president Subash Dogra, Balbir Singh referred to the ever increasing miseries of border residents. He regretted that BJP has betrayed these people, who the party had exploited during 2014 elections to Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly by making promises that turned out to be just hoax.
Launching a scathing attack on the BJP led Government at the Centre, the Congress MLC said that last three years of present regime has brought nothing but miseries to the people, as development and implementation of various welfare schemes remained a far cry due to inexperience of the BJP.
He reminded that BJP leadership had promised alternative land to the border residents at safer place but nothing has been done during the last three years. He said that BJP has no excuse for not fulfilling the promises which the party had made with the people in 2014 elections.
“BJP is running a majority government at the Centre and similarly party is equal partner in the State Government so non fulfilling the promises is nothing but betrayal with the people”, he said and listed various promises BJP had made with the residents of border areas from time to time.
Calling upon the BJP leadership to do something concrete on the ground instead of indulge into sloganeering, Singh said that mere rhetoric is not going to give any relief to the people. Later, the leaders also paid tributes to Rajiv Gandhi and said that his contributions for the country can not be over looked.
