Balbir discusses schemes with Director Social Welfare

JAMMU, June 10: Former Vice-Chairperson of Jammu & Kashmir Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes & Backward Classes Development Corporation, and State spokesperson BJP, Balbir Ram Rattan called on Director Social Welfare Jammu, Dr. Bharat Bhushan here, today and discussed various schemes of the department with him. He stressed on implementation of these schemes in Jammu province.
Dr. Bharat Bhushan, informed Balbir Ram that Social Welfare Department is running various schemes for the welfare of old aged and infirm persons of the society. The department provides pension to widows, older and handicapped persons. Besides, the department also provides scholarship to the students belonging to the general category as well as those from SC, ST and OBC classes. The students pursuing education in pre-metric, post-metric, Polytechnic course, Para-medical course are eligible to get benefit of the scholarship schemes for these categories, he added.
Balbir Ram wanted to know that what help the Government provides to students pursuing Bachelors in Medicine, Engineering and other post graduation courses. The Director apprised him that students pursuing MBBS, MD, BE, M. Tech, PhD and other professional courses can avail benefit of scholarship.
Balbir stressed on timely disbursement of pensions to the pensioners and giving wide publicity to the scholarship schemes so that more and more students can avail the benefits of such schemes. He also stressed on mass awareness about welfare measures of the department as it is directly linked with the welfare of the poor, old and infirm persons of the society.
