JAMMU, Apr 4: Director Tourism Jammu, Soujanya Sharma today convened a meeting with senior officers and representatives of different traders associations to discuss arrangements for five day Baisakhi Mela scheduled to commence from April 12.
The festival is being organized by Tourism Department in collaboration with traders associations viz Kanak Mandi, Raghunath Bazar, Residency Road and others.
It was informed in the meeting that the Mela would be inaugurated on 12th April, 2014. The traders would install ethnic food stalls at Raghunath Bazaar, Rajinder Bazaar, VirMarg and Kanak Mandi on nominal rates during the Mela followed by cultural events showcasing cultural heritage of State.
Mr. Soujanya said that such type of events are being organized to revive promote the unique cultural ethos of Jammu besides promoting cultural tourism in the state.
He further added that traditional tanga ride would also be a major attraction of mela to revive age old traditions of Jammu and informed that artists from other states would also perform cultural programmes during the festival.
On the occasion, traders associations would offer special discounts to customers besides a prize of three nights and two days free stay in Patnitop would be given to the owner of best decorated shop by Tourism Department.
Joint Director Tourism, S K Gupta, Dy Director, representatives of various traders associations besides others were also present in the meeting.
