KATHUA, Feb 1: The Border Action (BAC) from Samba and Kathua belt has demanded RBA category facilities (quote) for the people residing along International Border from Paharpur area in Kathua to Akhnoor in Jammu district.
In a meeting of the working committee of the Border Action Committee held at Hiranagar today, under the chairmanship of Ranjit Singh (advocate), convenor of the committee, it was demanded that same benefits be provided to the people living in the border belt of Jammu, Kathua and Samba which has been accorded to those living along LoC from Akhnoor to Uri.
The BAC members also demanded compensation for the people living along the IB of the land occupied for road, bunkers, ditch and barbed wire fencing by the armed forces.
Mr Singh pointed out that eligibility for recruitment of a Sepoy in armed forces in districts Kathua, Samba and Jammu is 45 % marks in Matric while in other parts of the state the eligibility is simple Matric pass. He demanded that this discrimination be removed. It was stressed upon the Government to appoint the constitutional authority for monitoring the works executed for development of border (IB) people by some civil senior officers.
