R.S PURA, July 29: DDC Member Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony alleged that officials of Irrigation Department are grossly unconcerned over the plight of farmers having fields at the tail-end of the Ranbir Canal as not a single officer has yet visited the tilling sites to assess the situation on ground.
He said that ‘Babus’ of the concerned department should have taken cue from Maharaja Hari Singh of erstwhile Dogra Rule, who despite being the ruler used to visit the tail-end fields without fail and used to direct the staff to take care of the canal so that every single farmer gets his share of water for irrigating his fields.
The DDC member was taking stock of ground situation of the canal starting from Agra Chak upto tail end at Korotana Khurd via Baspur Bangla.
He also inspected Mogas (exit points) and tributaries. Concerned AEE, JEs and the staff of peripheries also accompanied the DDC member.
Tony asked the staff to complete de-weeding on the sides of canals to ensure free-flow of water upto the last point so that farmers may get water in fields easily.
He appealed to the chief engineer concerned to personally look into the matter.
Tony also urged upon Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha to intervene.
He said that depth of the canal stretch from Beli Charana should be increased to have water upto at least 7.5 to 8 feet.
