Baba Reshi faces network issues

SRINAGAR, Dec 16: Devotees and locals at the shrine of Baba Payamud Din Reshi in Baramulla district are facing persistent communication issues due to the lack of mobile network connectivity in the area.
Locals said the problem is particularly severe with Jio services, causing inconvenience to devotees visiting from across Kashmir, as well as traders operating near the shrine.
According to multiple accounts, mobile connectivity drops completely while approaching Baba Rashi, especially near the two-way crossing where one road leads to Gulmarg and the other to the shrine.
The issue has reportedly persisted for several weeks, they said.
“With no Jio signal at the site, we are unable to contact family members, arrange transportation, or access emergency services during our visit,” visitors said.
Locals added that the disruption has also affected economic activity around the shrine.
Shopkeepers, food vendors, and other service providers are unable to accept UPI and other digital payments, which have become the preferred mode of transaction.
Given that a majority of mobile users in J&K rely on Jio services, the connectivity gap has intensified hardships for both devotees and the local population.
Syed Adil, an RTI activist who experienced the network issue at the shrine, said he has raised the matter at his level, seeking intervention under the Government’s Digital India initiative.
“I have been informed that the matter has now been forwarded to the Directorate General of Telecommunications (DGT) for necessary action,” he added.
