Azad visits flood-hit areas, asks Govt to expedite rescue ‘Op’

JAMMU, Sept 10: Former Union Health Minister  and senior AICC leader Ghulam Nabi Azad today visited many flood-affected areas of Jammu and asked the Administration to speed up relief and rehabilitation operation.
Accompanied by Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Sharma and concerned Chief Engineers, Mr Azad, who is leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, paid extensive visit to Phallain Mandal, Suhanjana, Beli Charana, Raipur, Satwari and other flood affected areas of Jammu today. He also inspected the site where  bridge over river Tawi connecting 22 Island villages of  Phallain Mandal has washed away in flood.
Mr Azad talked to many people of the area and listened to their problems. He lauded the efforts of Army, Air Force and NDRF men who have launched massive relief and rescue operation in the State. Mr Azad also visited site at fourth Tawi bridge today and asked the Central Government to expedite the rescue operation in flood-hit areas.
He said , ” The swift response of Centre Government over the floods was a commendable job, but the rescue operation in the submerged Kashmir need to accelerate as Valley is covered with water.”
He said this has happened for the first time in the history of the State, undoubtedly Government is doing tremendous job, but to save the people, more choppers need to be pressed in service as at every corner people are trapped seeking help.
“There is extreme need of boats, besides telecommunication should be restored at earliest,” he said and also lauded the role of Army, Air Force and Navy for offering selfless service  to the people and stressed for the increase in number of troops  to evacuate the people.
He also urged the Government to bring Medical teams from outside the State to treat the people as entire machinery of Government is collapsed and said, “there may be shortage of  space at the airport Srinagar, but state has another airbase in Awantipora, which can be used for accommodating more helicopters to speed up the rescue operations”.
Mr Azad said in Jammu areas there was urgent need of relief and rehabilitation of the affected people while in Kashmir the rescue operation is needed to be intensified with the deployment of more aircrafts to air lift trapped people. He said the situation is Kashmir was grim as compared to Jammu and people trapped there need immediate rescue and relief.
