Azad exhorts people to vote Congress-DMK combine to power

PUDUCHERRY, May 14:
AICC General Secretary and former Union Minister Gulam Nabi Azad today highlighted the several schemes implemented by the congress led UPA Government at the centre and the Congress Government in Puducherry and exhorted the people to vote the Congress DMK-combine to power to ensure the development of the union territory.
Addressing a press conference here today,Mr.Azhad who is here to undertake electioneering for the congress DMK candidates detailed the several schemes implemented by UPA-1 and UPA 2 for Puducherry and said that the N R Congress regeme was a “disaster”for Puducherry.
He said instead of putting up new industries, Mr Rangasamy was closing down existing industrial units. Unemployment has become a major problem and the N R Congress has messed up with the Special Economic Zones (SEZ) sanctioned.
He had provided employment to only people of two constituencies (his constituency and that of his Nephew’s). Mr Azad alleged that the NDA Government had cut the plan size of the Union Territory by 33 per cent to Rs.1000 crore. Puducherry Chief Minister is the only Chief Minister who failed to meet the Prime Minister or Union Ministers to putforth his demands.
Expressing confidence that the Congress-DMK front would come to power in Tamilnadu and Puducherry, Mr.Azad said at the national level the two year of Modi Government rule had convinced the people that the Prime Minister could not keep up the tall promises he had made before the elections.
Similarly,people in Puducherry are now comparing the functioning of the Congress and N R Congress Government and the poll might swing in favour of the Congress-DMK alliance Asked about a post-poll alliance chance, Mr. Azad said the Congress-DMK combine would win a minimum of 23 of the 30 seats and then where is the question of a post-poll alliance. Mr.Mukul Wasnik, AICC secretary in charge of Puducherry who was present said that the N R Congress Government here was a ‘nightmare’to the people here.
The Government failed in all fronts, he said adding that education and health sectors suffered a lot and unemployment has become a major issue.Safety and security of the people of Puducherry has become a major issue,he added.
Describing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Puducherry chief minister N Rangasamy as “Twin Brothers”, Mr.Wasnik said both of them used to give promises,but never keep them up,Modi at the centre and Rangasmay in Puducherry.
Explaining the salient features in the party’s election manifesto released here,Mr.Wasnik assured special category state status for Puducherry and reopening of all the defunct textile mills.He also expressed confidence that a Congress-DMK Government would be formed here after May 19.
AICC general secretary and former Union Minister V Narayansamy told newspersons that the AIADMK Government in Tamilnadu had also “cheated “Puducherry is several issues. He said when Karnataka released Cauvery water, Tamilnadu failed to release it for Karaikal region of the Union Territory, Puducherry was not given sand for construction works and the Puducherry airport could not be expanded because of the attitude of the AIADMK Government in Tamilandu, he charged.No doubt Puducherry would be merged with Tamilnadu if AIDMK was voted to power,he doubted.
He said Mr N Rangasamy failed to take any step to get the NEET scrapped whereas the Congress had written to the Prime Minister to scrap it. NEET will not be permitted in Puducherry if the congress come to power, he added.He also promised that the Congress Government will bear the entire tution fees of the students for medicine and engineering selected through the centralized admission committee (Centac) of the Government.
