On the untrodden Kargil heights
During the May -June 1999 nights,
War clouds hover dense and bright
Worrying signals of what was in sight.

Revenges 16 December 1971 night,
Violates LoC understanding by both sides,
Come winter vacate forward heights,
Re-occupy them when sun turns bright.
Started the guns bloom, boulders slide
Crouched our soldiers’ furious might,
Stumbling at each step, uneven stride,
Old maps, rugged terrain, no guide,
No vegetation for cover & camouflage,
Soldiers bang heels with no end in sight.
Louder war cries, victory at their feet
Undeterred they climb the mountains
Capture Tololing & Tiger hill height.
Declare victory on the 26 July night
We gloriously celebrate at those heights.
