AWWA celebrates Raising Day

SAMBA, Aug 23: The Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA), Northern Command celebrated its Golden Jubilee here today.
Functions to mark the occasion were held at major military stations in the State of J&K with the main function being held at Udhampur.
Raised in 1966, AWWA has evolved as one of the largest registered NGOs of the country. The organisation has been rendering yeomen service in the fields of societal obligation, social empowerment and skill building.
The celebration was marked by various competitions for the members.  The Veer Naris (widows of martyrs) were given special focus and were felicitated during the celebrations. The Regional President’s Awards were conferred on selected ladies for their outstanding contribution to the organisation during the year.
In her message to the members,  Sarabjit Kaur Dhillon, Regional Vice President AWWA re-iterated the motto of AWWA of “Asha, Vishwas and Astha” and exhorted the fraternity to contribute and support Nation building and undertake activities that not only enable the organisation to achieve its goals but also impact positively on society and nation at large.   She said the organisation must establish itself as an interface with other NGOs in the region and extend help and support when required.
Sharing her vision for the future of the organisation, Mrs  Dhillon said that the organisation “must create self sustainable and economically viable projects that generate employment” for the beneficiaries. She also reiterated the theme of AWWA on the eve of Golden Jubilee “Spouses and Dependents Skilling under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY)”.
