JAMMU, Nov 28: The NSS, NCC Unit and Women Development Cell of Government Degree College (GDC) R S Pura under the aegis of IQAC jointly organized a two-day awareness workshop on “Ayurvedic Wellness– the art and science of Vibrant Health” under the patronage of Principal Prof (Dr) Preetpal Kour.
The resource person for workshop were Dr Amanpreet Kour (Medical Officer, I/C Ayush Unit, GMC Jammu) and Dr Lotika Bharti (Medical Officer, Ayush Units, Government Ayurvedic Hospital, Indira Chowk, Jammu) accompanied by Dr Meher.
The welcome address was given by Dr Rajinder Sharma, convener IQAC. The workshop was attended by more than 100 students enrolled in NSS and both NCC wings. The empowering lecture given by Dr Amanpreet Kour shed light on foundational principles of Ayurvedic eating customizing diet according to one’s dosha (Vata, Pitta, Kapha), understanding metabolic fire (Agni), and choosing foods that promote vitality, digestion, and long-term health.
Attendees were introduced to key Ayurvedic nutrition concepts, including: seasonal eating (Ritucharya), mindful eating practices, and proper food combinations. Dr Lotika Bharti discussed about the Elements of Yoga in Eye health aimed at raising awareness about natural, non-invasive methods to support and maintain healthy vision.
The workshop brought together students, faculty who explored simple yoga practices that can help reduce eye strain and improve focus.
While addressing the gathering, the Principal emphasized that Ayurveda teaches us that health is not merely the absence of disease, but a state of physical, mental, and spiritual equilibrium. At the heart of Ayurveda lies the principle that prevention is better than cure.
The workshop was coordinated by Dr Rajinder Sharma, convener IQAC, Prof Radhika Mahajan, convener WDC, Prof Lukesha Dubgotra NSS PO, Prof Sanjeev Upadhyay, CTO NCC, Dr Kiran Lata, ANO NCC and committee members of NSS unit and Women Development Cell. The event was concluded with formal vote of thanks by Dr Savleen Kour.
