JAMMU, Aug 20: An awareness rally against the use of Chinese Manjha was taken out here from Shaheedi Chowk.
The rally, which was organized by social activist, Balvinder Singh and flagged off by Additional DC, Jammu, Rashpal Singh along with SDPO North, Varun Jandial, after passing through various markets of Jammu city culminated back at Shaheedi Chowk.
Members of civil society and students of Tiny Tots High School, Alexandar Memorial High School and Hari Singh Higher Secondary School participated in the rally. The objective was to make people aware of the fatal effects of razor sharp thread made of nylon/plastic/synthetic using glass/metal generally known as “Chinese Manjha”.

Students of different schools were holding placards and banners in their hands which read “Use Traditional Kite Flying Thread”, “Killer Manjha”, “Say No to Chinese Manjha”, “Apke Shouk Se Kisi Ki Jaan Ja Sakti Hai”, “Save Birds from Deadlier Manjha” , “Save Precious Life, Boycott Chinese Manjha” etc.
All those present in the rally urged upon the people especially the youths not to use the banned string as sale/purchase and use of Chinese Manjha is a crime and punishable in accordance with the provisions of Section 188 of RPC.
Balvinder Singh, while speaking on the occasion, said that Chinese Manjha poses a great threat not only to people flying kites, but to bikers, scooterists and birds also. District Magistrate Jammu has also imposed ban on procuring stocking, sale and use of plastic/nylon strings generally known as “Chinese Manjha”, used for kite flying under Section 144 of CrPc. Singh also urged upon the district administration and police department to make strict compliance of the ban order.
