Awareness programme about PM Shram Yogi Mandhan held

LEH, Feb 28: Government of India has announced a mega pension yojna known as Pradhan Mantri Shram-Yogi Mandhan, to provide old age protection to the unorganized workers in the form of monthly pension.
This was stated by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Sachin Kumar, who chaired the awareness programme given to the Sarpanches and Nambardars of various blocks of Leh, Kharu, Chuchot, Thiksay, Khaltse and Saspol villages at DC Conference hall today. They were given directions to inform and spread awareness about the scheme among their villagers.
ACD Rural Development Department, Tsering Paldan, Assistant Labour Commissioner, Ghulam Nabi, District Panchayat Officer, Zakir Hussain, District Manager, Common Service Centre (CSC), Tsering Angmo, officials of Deputy Director Employment Department were also present in the meeting.
Registration camp will be organised at the Panchayat Ghars as per the schedule and the Sarpanches and Nambardars should inform and aware their people before hand about the scheme, said ADC, Sachin Kumar.
Educating in detail about the scheme, ACD, Tsering Paldan, Assistant Labour Commissioner, Ghulam Nabi, and District Manager, CSC, Tsering Angmo said that PM-SYM is a voluntary and periodic contribution based pension system meant for unorganized workers with income up to Rs. 15,000/- per month.
The Central Government would deposit matching contribution (50%), every month in the pension account of the worker. PM-SYM would be administered by Ministry of Labour and Employment in partnership with LIC and LIC will be the Pension Fund Manager and responsible for pension pay out, they added.
An unorganized worker with age between 18-40 years can join the scheme. The unauthorised workers as defined include home based workers, street vendors, head loaders, brick kiln workers, cobblers, rag pickers, domestic workers, washer men, rickshaw pullers, rural landless labourers, own account workers, agricultural workers, construction workers, carpenters, masons, Beedi workers, handloom workers, leather workers and other unorganized sector workers, they said.
The scheme provides for a fixed pension of Rs. 3,000/- after attaining the age of 60 years on a monthly contribution of a small affordable amount during their working age(between 18-40 years), they informed.
Later, a detailed discussion was held to further clear any query or information regarding the scheme.
