JAMMU, May 27: An awareness program on Menstrual Hygiene under the campaign Talk Periods was conducted today in AMT Nursing School of Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu.
A large number of nursing students and staff members attended the campaign organized in collaboration with the District Red Cross Society and NGO SUPPORT (A Global Volunteers Society).
‘Awareness Campaign by NGO SUPPORT” is being led by Dr Shashi Sudan Sharma (Principal, GMC Jammu), Mamta Rajput (Secretary IRCS District Red Cross Society), Ritu Singh, Dr Navneet Kour (founder chairperson, NGO SUPPORT) and Kritika Khanna.
The campaigners are visiting Government and Cooperative Schools as well as touching the rural and border areas and girls and women of urban slums to promote ‘Safe Active Periods’ campaign talking to people, especially the young girls and women about menstrual hygiene.
Dr Shashi Sudan Sharma, in her address to the girls and medical students said that “Signs of heavy bleeding, irregular periods and infections need to be checked immediately, otherwise, women can do almost anything during this time. It is a normal physiological phenomenon.”
