Authorities seek curb on mining

Srinagar, Sept 14: The authorities on the ground overseeing the affairs of Flood Spill Channel Division, Narbal in district Budgam have sought an immediate curbs to the extraction currently on from Old Bridge Chadoora to Hanjigund.
In this regard, the Executive Engineer, food Spill Channel Division, Narbal has written to the District Mineral Officer, Budgam informing them about the violations being committed during the extraction by the executing agency.
“…as reported by the concerned Assistant Executive Engineer, the executing agency of Block No. 11 is violating the environment clearance of the said block by way of extraction of RBM during night hours and beyond approved 1.0-meter depth,” the letter written in this connection reads.
Furthermore, the letter states that the approved quantity has been lifted by the agency and there is no scope left for further extraction.
“In this case, you are requested to take necessary measures for stopping the further extraction of RBM in block No. 11; otherwise there is the apprehension of sloughing of the embankments/buffer zone which can prove disaster during high discharge in the Nallah,” the letter said.
