ATG to stage Punjabi play ‘Abhiraksha’ in Shimla

JAMMU, Nov 16: Amateur Theatre Group (ATG) is going to stage Balwant Gargi’s Punjabi play “Abhiraksha” under the direction of Sahitya Akademi awardee, Mushtaq Kak on November 18 at Gaiety Theatre in Shimla.
The play is being staged in commemoration of Balwant Gargi’s birth centenary organized by Sangeet Natak Akademi in collaboration with Himachal Academy of Art, Culture & Languages.
“Amateur Theatre Group has been invited to showcase its one of the most appreciated presentation “Abhiraksha” which is based on the story of man-woman relationship in an urban set up which challenges the old ethical values in a crumbling social structure due to fast paced lifestyle by Gaiety Theatre Shimla”, said Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee and Director ATG, Mushtaq Kak, in a press conference, here today.
The play “Abhiraksha” depicts the story of man-woman relationship in urban setup, where old ethical values are being challenged in a crumbling social structure. The chaos in the urban homes created by the fast paced life and a desire to cling to old values forms the refrain of this play.
The artists who are going to perform in the play are Sunil Sharma as Pradeep, Sapna Soni as Ranjana, Sunaina as Malti and Abhay Rajput as Randhir. The set will be designed by Mohit Chib whereas Ankit Sharma will design the music. Costumes will be designed by Mohit Purie and Sandeep Verma will assist in direction.
