JAMMU, Nov 27: Maintaining that Astrology is a part of science work, the Vice Chancellor of Jammu University, Prof R D Sharma today said that some astrologers (Jyotshies) consider it a part of dharma and Karma for them.
Prof. Sharma, who was the chief guest during the release of 331th edition of Vijeshwar Panchang for year 2015-16, here said that the scholars from times immemorial have given a lot to society and “we should have faith in these granths which link us to our culture and past’’.
He said even the people of other communities also believe the calculations of Almanac which are based on time and date.
Speaking on the occasion, Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner, R K Pandita who was the special guest said the Vijeshwar Panchang has a lot of significance for Kashmiri Pandits as well as the members of Hindu community outside Kashmir. The Kashmiri Pandits consider themselves incomplete without this Almanac which is linked to their lives and they consider a religious granth.
He said KPs staying in any part of Globe can’t remain without having this almanac and younger generations of the community also have a faith and belief in the same. Swami Kumar Ji of Geeta Satsang Ashram while highlighting the role of the Panchang and other granths said it is because of these granths that community has kept its culture and traditions intact.
K P Sabha president, K K Khosa who also graced the occasion said the Almanac links the younger generation of the community to its culture and language. He also recalled the role of Shastri Parivar and stressed on creating unity in the community.
Ramesh Hangloo Director Sharda Radio highlighted the role of Vijeshwar Panchang in guiding the society especially during the exile period and said that it remained a guiding force to the community during the turmoil period. He especially recalled the service of Late Pt Prem Nath Shastri the former editor chief of the Vijeshwar Panchang.
The Editor of the Vijeshwar Panchang Jyotshi, Omkar Nath Shastri also highlighted the role and significance of Vijeshwar Panchang saying that it is not only an Almanac but a complete Dharam granth for the community.
Among others Dr Sushil Wattal, Rajender Kilm, Kuldeep Pandita, Mohan Lal Comrade, Jyotshi Bushan Lal, Jyotshi, Avtar Krishan and Jyotshi Vimarsh attended the function. The stage was managed by P K Raina.
