JAMMU, Sept 27: A meeting of J&K Motor Transport Companies Association Jammu was held today under the chairmanship of its president, Gajan Singh Khajuria for discussing various issues and demanded of the transporters.
Welcoming the statements of Minister for Public Works and Parliamentary Affairs, Abdul Rehman Veeri on the overcharging of freight for transportation of fruit boxes, the Association urged the minister to check overloading of the fruit in the State. Due to overloading, a number of accidents occur on the National Highway resulting in loss of many precious lives besides damage of vehicles and loading material, the members explained.
They further said that a regular check on overloading of vehicles would also increase the State exchequer as well as end corruption. The State roads are also overburdened due to heavy traffic and overloading creates more havoc resulting in damage of roads, the meet added.
The Association also appealed the minister to provide succour to the transporters by compensating them uniformly for the loss, which they face due to last three month unrest in the Kashmir valley. It also urged the Minister to rationalize the freight charges of fruits and others material within the State so that transporters of all three regions may not suffer more in future.
The meeting was attended by S Nanak Singh, Tej Ram Gupta, S Avtar Singh, S Darshan Singh, S Kulwant Singh, Ashok Kumar, S Kultar Singh, Zeenat Khan and others.
