SRINAGAR, Sept 10: Police today froze property and other assets worth lakhs belonging to two notorious drug smugglers in Bandipora.
The assets, valued at Rs 56 lakh and 60 thousand, were owned by Khursheed Ahmad Waza, son of GH Ahmad Waza, and his wife (whose name is withheld), residents of Bandipora.
The frozen property comprises land measuring 1 Kanal & 1.5 Marlas, a Mahindra Scorpio with registration No. JKO1T-6266, and a Tata Minibus with registration No. JK05-7707, according to the police.
These assets were frozen under Section 68F(2) of the NDPS Act by the Competent Authority & Administrator SAFEM (New Delhi).
The police revealed that all these assets were illegally acquired through the sale of narcotic drugs. “The duo is currently booked under PIT NDPS and is detained at Kot Bhalwal Jammu and Central Jail Srinagar, respectively.”
Furthermore, the police had already frozen bank savings and other financial assets totaling Rs 18 lakh and 36 thousand, six hundred eleven rupees, which belonged to the aforementioned accused lady and her family.
In the meantime, police arrested two drug peddlers in Kulgam and Pulwama today, recovering ganja and poppy straw from their possession.
In Kulgam, a police party, led by the SHO of Police Station Qazigund, established a checkpoint near Khatana Petrol Pump in Qazigund and intercepted a suspicious person who attempted to flee but was tactfully apprehended.
“During the search, 3 kgs of ganja-like contraband substance concealed in a nylon bag were recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Rameez Raja, son of Reyaz Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Hiller Shahabad, Anantnag,” police stated.
In Pulwama, another police party, under the guidance of the SHO of Police Station Pulwama, conducted naka checking at Urcherso in Pulwama and intercepted a vehicle with registration No. JK13D-8809 driven by Mukhtar Ahmad Sheikh, son of Bashir Ahmad and a resident of Noorpora Tral.
“During the search, a substantial quantity of poppy straw was recovered from his possession.”
Both accused persons have been arrested and taken to their respective Police Stations, where they are in custody. “The vehicle used in the commission of the crime has also been seized.”
