Srinagar, June 4: Legislative Assembly Speaker Kavinder Gupta today said the house condemns the militant attack on a BSF convoy in Bijbehara area yesterday that left three jawans dead and nine others injured.
“This is a genuine concern which the members have raised. Entire house condemns it (the attack),” Gupta said in the Assembly here.
The issue was raised by BJP MLA from Nowshera Ravinder Raina as the Question Hour started. He was supported by several members of his party.
“The house should pass a condemnation resolution against Pakistan for fuelling attacks like the one that took place at Bijbehara yesterday … Three of our jawans have been martyred,” said Raina.
The BJP MLAs entered into a brief exchange of heated words with independent MLA from Langate Abdul Rashid Sheikh who criticised the ruling party members for not raising the issue of Handwara killings. “Where is the magisterial inquiry report into the killing of five persons in Handwara? You do not talk about it,” he said.
Government also said that investigations have been taken up in Anantnag militant attack in which two cops, including an officer, were killed by militants this morning.
“2-3 unidentified gunmen attacked a police naka party at Bus Stand Anantnag this morning,” Rural Development Minister, Abdul Haq Khan, told the Lower House.
The issue of the cop killings in Anantnag was also raised by BJP MLA Ravinder Raina. Opposition members led by Congress and later joined by BJP lawmakers demanded that the house should condemn the cop killings.
Earlier, NC leader and lawmaker, Ali Mohammad Sagar, supported by other Opposition lawmakers, said: “The rise in militancy was due to unholy PDP-BJP alliance in J&K.”
The opposition members demanded response from the Government over the spurt in militant attacks ahead of the By-Polls. “What is Government doing? CM is herself fighting elections from Anantnag and what was her administration doing when security forces personnel are being killed?” Sagar asked.
Congress MLA Nawang Rigzin Jora took a jibe at BJP led Union Government for PM flying to Pakistan without any invitation and that was followed by attack in Pathankote.
