Assamese singer Gayatri Hazarika no more

GUWAHATI, May 16: A household name in Assam and acclaimed singer Gayatri Hazarika breathes her last at a hospital in Guwahati on Friday afternoon.

Hazarika has been battling for her life for a long time and admitted to a private hospital since May 12.

She was 45  and survived by her husband and two sons besides a host of admirers.

Hazarika has been singing since she was 11 years old, but shot to fame in 2014 after rendering her voice to a prominent song “Sora pate pate Fagun name”.

Born in Guwahati in 1980, Gayatri completed her schooling from TC higher secondary school in Guwahati and later studies in Handique Girls College in Guwahati. Later she studies music from Rabindra Bharati in Kolkata and Bhatkhande Music College in Lucknow.

She also scored the highest marks in music subject in her senior secondary examination.

Hazarika has also lent her voice to several Assamese movies and teleserials .

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma condoled the death of Hazarika and said that her soulful voice and contributions to music will always be remembered.
