Srinagar, Mar 19: The unemployed graduates and postgraduate students of Forestry today staged a protest demanding to scrap of 10+2 eligibility for the forester posts.
Scores of aspirants appeared in the Press Enclave and were seen raising slogans in favour of their demands while they criticised the Forest Department for keeping the eligibility 10+2 for the posts of the foresters, alleging that those who have advanced degrees in the subject were being side-lined.

“By this very eligibility criteria, we stand nowhere despite having advanced and higher degrees in the subject. It is nothing but injustice,” said Ishrat Nazir, a PhD student at SKUAST-K
She said that the B.Sc Forestry is a 4-year degree and those who possess such degrees should be prioritized over those who are just 10+2.
The protestors said that if the Department is not able to change the criteria, then at least 40% reservation should be made for the aspirants who are having higher degrees in the subject.
“It is like people who are just 10+2 will be given the job of managing our forests, that’s bizarre,” the protestors said.
The students urged the administration to look into the matter and ensure that the necessary changes are done in the eligibility criteria so that justice is done.
“We have spent years to get our degrees and also there are scores of our fellow students who are unemployed despite degrees; they need to be accommodated,” the protestors said.
