ASKPC’s concern over migrants’ plight, demands relief for flood victims

JAMMU, Sept 6: The All State Kashmir Pandit Conference (ASKPC) in a meeting of its Executive Members today under the leadership of Moti Lal Mall at Buta Nagar, here today discussed the pressing issues of displaced Kashmiri Pandits including the people of Jammu region who suffered heavy loss due to recent floods , cloudbursts and incessant rains.
The meeting witnessed the participation of a large number of Executive Members and community representatives. One of the major concerns highlighted in the meeting was the grave hardships caused by the recent heavy rains which have created havoc across the Union Territory.
The incessant downpour has not only disrupted normal life but has also resulted in severe damage to houses, roads, and basic infrastructure. It was noted with concern that Kashmiri Pandits living in migrant camps such as Jagti, Nagrota, Purkhoo, Muthi, Buta Nagar and in non-camp areas like Sari Rakhwalan and other localities of Jammu Division, are suffering immensely due to water logging, damage to shelters and lack of proper civic amenities.
The meetings expressed that the displaced community, already living in difficult conditions for decades, has been pushed into further distress by these natural calamities. In this context, an appeal was made to the Union Territory administration, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah and the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha , to urgently intervene and provide adequate relief measures, restore civic infrastructure on priority, and take concrete steps to mitigate the sufferings of the people living in camps and non camps and general population of Jammu.
It also resolved that the organization will not take rest until all Jammuties in general, and Kashmiri Pandits in particular, are duly compensated by the Government. The ASKPC reaffirmed its commitment to continue the struggle for the genuine demands and rights of the displaced community.
