AGARTALA, Aug 26: Natrang Actor and upcoming Director Asheish Nijhawan was conferred Bilmillah Khan Yuva Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for direction in theatre at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan, Agartala (Tripura) by Balkrishan Acharya, the Governor of Tripura and Nagaland in a glittering function in the ongoing National festival of Music Dance and Drama here.
Born in Srinagar Kashmir, J&K in 1984, Asheish Nijhawan joined Natrang in the year 2000 and started pursuing his passion in theatre acting under the guidance of Balwant Thakur. In 2006 he was selected in the National school Of Drama, New Delhi to undergo fulltime three year training in theatre. Studying in NSD was like a dream come true for him. After Passing out in 2009, he got selected in the National School of Drama Repertory company as an Artist . In October 2010 the feeling of saturation started to creep up and the urge to do something in his own state , he resigned from the NSD repertory and decided to head back to his home town Jammu and started to do small workshops with the children and the youth. During this period he worked in international projects with international directors like Mfundo Tshazibane (South Africa) and Ovliakuli Khodhakuli (Uzbekistan) and also participated in various international theatre Festivals like Bharat Rang Mahotsav, International Festival of Theatre Institutes, New Delhi, ATEC and GATS in Beijing, China.
Presently, he is pursuing Junior Research Fellowship on Butoh Theatre By Ministry Of Culture, Government of India.
