ASHAs demand incentives for work done under Ayushman Bharat

SRINAGAR, Sept 20: ASHAs in district Budgam today demanded that they should be paid for the work they have been doing for the Ayushman Bharat Health Insurance Scheme.
They said that while they are being paid incentives for doing other works, the concerned department roped them in for the Ayushman Bharat Health Insurance Scheme and were not paid even a penny.
“We are already doing a lot on the ground and are being meagrely paid, but we have also roped in for this insurance scheme, but we are not paid for the work we do for it,” Rifat, ASHA worker from Block Chrar-e-Sharief said.
She said that it were the ASHAs who worked tirelessly and made people aware of what benefits the scheme would bring and how it was going to be helpful for them.
“After that was done, the concerned people of the scheme went to their homes collected Rs 100 per card from the families-and we, as we did the groundwork were not given anything,” the ASHAs said.
The ASHAs said that they are already working on meagre incentives, and for that too, they have to wait for months altogether and on top of if they are being asked to carry out more work without incentives.
“We have been doing this work apart from our other routine work for last more than 2 years now, but still the concerned are not ready to pay us for the work that we do additionally despite harsh conditions,” the ASHAs said.
The ASHAs have now appealed the Deputy Commissioner, Budgam and other officials look into the issues that they are facing and make sure that they are given the incentives for the additional work that they have taken up.
