JAMMU, Sept 2: The National Health Mission (NHM) has made various achievements under the leadership of Bali Bhagat Minister for Health & Medical Education Department, Asiea Naqash, Minister of State for Health and Medical Education Department, by implementing various Centrally Sponsored Schemes by  Dr. M.K.Bhandari, Commissioner/ Secretary, Health & Medical Education Department and Dr. Mohan Singh, Mission Director National Health Mission, J&K.
In view of this, Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, in a communiqué recently addressed to the Chief Secretary, J&K, has lauded the performance of National Health Mission in J&K for timely utilisation of funds on various projects and undertaking several reformative measures in implementation of National Health Mission in the State during the financial year  of 2015-16.
Recently, the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, GoI has identified State specific practices numbering about 300 across the country with regard to implementation of various interventions taken up under National Health Mission. Out of which, only 32 have been selected as the Best Practices to be awarded in the 3rd National Summit on “Best and Replicable Practices and Innovations in Public Health Care Systems” held at Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh recently
Out of 32 best practices, two best practices were selected from Jammu & Kashmir State including Unique institutionalization of ASHA programme in the J&K State and Infographics for Disease Control.
A large part of successful delivery of health services in the State can be attributed to the vast growing Community Health Volunteers i.e. Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) who are perhaps the most significant driver of maternal and child health care and various National programmes. With a view to manage the fleet of about 12000 ASHAs functioning at the grass root level, the State has adopted unique model for institutionalisation of ASHA programme by utilising the services of CHOs/Block Extension Educators/ Health Educators/ Lady Health Visitors etc.as District /Block Co-ordinators and ASHA facilitators in place of hiring these persons on contractual basis or through outsourcing as has been done by the other States in the Country in line with the GoI norms.
Meanwhile, Bali Bhagat, has appreciated the role of Health Department, especially Mission Director NHM, J&K; Director Health Services Jammu/ Kashmir and Director Family Welfare, J&K regarding integration of regular manpower of health department which in turn brought appreciable  results at the State level  and also  in implementing various interventions under National Health Mission and  advised these Head of Departments to regularly monitor their staff for bringing improvement in the health care delivery system in the coming years.
