JAMMU, Feb 19: Asha Kiran Welfare Society, Janipur Colony celebrated its 18th Foundation Day today at Baba Lal Ji Temple Hall Janipur Colony here.
MLA Jammu West, Sat Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion while I D Soni, president Old Age Home and Infirm was the guest of honour.
The function started with singing of National Anthem by Miss Kashish and Divanshy students of May Fair School Janipur Colony followed by other formalities.
Various cultural activities, patriotic songs and speeches on Swacch Bharat Mission and demonetization were presented by students. Besides merit, cash awards were also presented to the students of Government Girls Middle and High Schools of Janipur Colony who stood first, second and third in their respective classes from 5th to 9th. Mementos were given by the chief guest to Anju Vaid S/o Sunil Vaid who won Gold Medal in BCom (Hons) and Miss Sakshi Verma, D/o Sanjeev Verma who got Gold medal in fencing.
Further mementos were given to Miss Archita D/o Anil Kohli, Yatin Manhas S/o Sanjeet Singh and Miss Sarbjeet Kour D/o Avtar Singh for getting position in J&K Board examinations of 8th and 10th standards. Sewing machines were provided to three widows and cash pension of Rs 400 each to two widows besides consolation prizes to other participants.
Dr Vikrant Sharma vice president of Society presented briefly the various activities of the society. Sat Sharma lauded various activities of the Society and assured that he will provide necessary help for updating the library.
I D Soni gave a detailed lecture to the participants for helping the needy persons with a number of examples from religious scriptures and emphasized that in real God lives in the souls of poor people.
Dr J P Gupta chairman of the Society appealed to the participants for helping the society both physically and financially so that the welfare activities of the society in the ward may be enhanced.
