JAMMU, Oct 1: As admission seekers continued protest for increase in intake capacity of constituent colleges of Cluster University Jammu, the university administration today appealed the protesting students to call off their agitation and respect the UGC guidelines.
The CLUJ has also clarified that increase or decrease in the intake capacity of seats is not in the hands of the university but requires a lot of planned meticulous mechanism.
The appeal comes days after the students went to continue their protest against the alleged inadequate intake capacity of the constituent colleges which refrains aspiring students to seek admission to the varied undergraduate courses in these colleges.
“The constituent colleges of the university have an intake capacity of about seven thousand seats, which is in accordance to the UGC guidelines as per the existing infrastructure and faculty. Increase or decrease in the intake capacity is not in the hands of the university and requires a lot of planned meticulous mechanism. The admission process is entirely on merit basis, both in open and other categories and university is working effortlessly to accommodate students within its limits,” reads the appeal, issued by Dean Students Welfare, CLUJ, Dr Twinkle Suri.
Regarding the students’ demand for the conduct of supplementary examination of 1st and 3rd semester, the university has clarified that as per the provision of university statutes, supplementary examination of only 5th & 6th semesters are allowed.
“Such protests only tarnish the image of Cluster University and also affect normal functioning of the university administration and academia,” further reads the appeal, once again urging the students to call off their agitation.
Meanwhile, the aggrieved admission seekers, led by ABVP activists, today staged a protest demonstration outside Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar Jammu.
As the protesting students tried to block the road, Police swung into action used force to disperse them. Some of the protesting ABVP activists were also detained by the Police.
ABVP State Secretary Mukesh Manhas said the despite getting above 85 percent marks in class 12th , students are not getting admission in the Colleges of Cluster University of Jammu due to decrease in intake capacity and the collapsed infrastructure of the university.
