JAMMU, Jan 21: To discuss the role of vaccination in controlling the spread of diseases, Aryans Colleges of Pharmacy, Rajpura, near Chandigarh, organized a webinar on “Safety & Efficacy of Vaccines”.
Dr Jyoti Sharma, Professor Dr HSJ Institute of Dental Sciences & Hospital, Punjab University, Chandigarh, interacted with faculty members and Aryans students of Engineering, Law, Management, Nursing, Pharmacy, B Ed and Agriculture. Dr Anshu Kataria, Chairman, Aryans Group presided over the webinar.
Dr Jyoti, while interacting with students said that the duration of immunity varies with different diseases and different vaccines. She further explained that the vaccine efficacy is the percentage reduction of disease in a vaccinated group of people compared to non vaccinated group, whereas effectiveness is measured once the vaccine is approved for use in the general population.
She explained about herd immunity mechanism by which the larger community can be protected. No vaccine is 100 percent effective as a small percentage of people are not protected after vaccination and for others the protection may wane over time, she added and enlightened students about COVID-19 vaccine.
