JAMMU, Feb 25: Senior BJP leader and MLA Jammu West Arvind Gupta has condemned the detention of disabled protestors in Srinagar, calling it an attack on their fundamental rights.
The protestors were demanding a special recruitment drive, an increase in their monthly pension, low-interest loans, job reservations, and better representation in governance. Other demands included an advisory board for their development and dedicated service counters in government offices and banks.
Gupta criticized the administration for neglecting the disabled community and urged immediate corrective action. He highlighted the Government’s failure to implement reservations in promotions for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD), despite Supreme Court directives and DoPT orders.
“Cases like Rajeev Kumar Gupta Vs UOI (2016) and Siddaraju Vs. Karnataka (2020) have upheld such reservations, yet the J&K administration continues to ignore them,” the MLA said. He demanded immediate release of the detained protestors and called on the Government to engage with disabled representatives and ensure their rightful entitlements without delay.
