Arunachal: Flash floods hit Upper Subansiri; over 100 houses affected, no casualty reported

ITANAGAR, May 30 : Flash floods triggered by incessant heavy rains have caused significant destruction in Arunachal Pradesh’s Upper Subansiri district, with the Sigin River overflowing and inundating several low-lying areas.
District officials on Friday confirmed that at least 117 houses – both RCC and semi-RCC structures – have been affected, along with other key infrastructures. The worst-hit areas include Polo Colony, Sigum Rijo, Sigin Colony, Bukpen Colony, and Forest Colony, which fall within the catchment area of the Sigin River.
Additionally, a house was swept away on Thursday, but no human casualties have been reported except for property loss.
Upper Subansiri Deputy Commissioner Tasso Gambo, accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Biaro Sorum and other district officials, visited the affected sites to assess the damage and coordinate response measures.
Given the worsening situation, the DC has issued a prohibitory order, urging residents in vulnerable zones to remain alert and shift to safer locations to protect life and property.
“All concerned Departments, including the police and disaster management teams, have been placed on high alert and asked to remain prepared for any emergency,” the in-charge DIPRO Taw Ekke said.
Relief and rescue operations are currently underway, with the District Administration and the Department of Disaster Management conducting property assessments and providing immediate assistance to affected families.
The administration continues to monitor the situation closely and has assured all necessary support to those impacted by the floods, he added.
