Artists staging protest dharna for relief package. — Excelsior/Rakesh

JAMMU, June 14: Demanding relief package for them, local artists held a protest demonstration at Cultural Academy, here today.
They were demanding relief package for the artists, who are without work because of the Covid pandemic and consequent lockdowns.
To highlight their grievance and demand, these artists assembled at the Cultural Academy complex and staged a dharna amidst beating of drums and raising slogans.
According to Garu Ram, an artist from Bhagatpur Jammu, no relief compensation has been provided by the Government to the artists, who are without work because of Covid pandemic and consequent lockdown.
“During previous lockdown, Government had compensated some artists who are working with the Cultural Academy by giving them 8-9 thousand rupees but no relief was provided to other artists, who didn’t have a performance proof by the Academy,” he said, adding that there are number of artists, whose performance letters are lying with the Academy.
“There are some artists, who were not given opportunity to perform in the Academy functions while some others, who have performed but their payment as well as the performance letter are still pending,” said the protesting artists.
The protest dharna was joined by Parsino Devi and Party, All Artists Association President Surinder Manhas, Prito Devi, Arjun Singh Manhas, Sudesh Manhas, Mohan Lal and Party, Garu Ram and Party and others.
