It is heartening to note that Daily Excelsior has carried a series of articles on the fall of Skardu. Major General (Retd) Goverdhan Singh Jamwal’s article has succinctly analysed the reasons and I am glad that he has not shied away from making critical comments about the role of Indian Army.
I also take this opportunity of congratulating you for the boldness displayed on the subject for most of the media either dismisses the subject out of hand or is content in laying all the blame at the door of the British in order to absolve Indian Army officers, particularly those taking decisions in Srinagar. I take this opportunity of suggesting and appealing to this esteemed newspaper to take lead in launching a movement that at least remembers those who lost their lives during that tragic siege. There is little hope of regaining those regions in the prevailing circumstances and we will continue to lodge token protests about it to China whenever the occasion demands but we can remember those who laid down their lives in the defence of the territorial integrity of the State.
