Record 175 FIRs registered in NDPS cases

JAMMU, June 1: Police here in Jammu district today claimed to have arrested nearly 300 drug peddlers under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan in the last 50 days, recovering more than 5 kilograms of heroin wroth around Rs 15-16 crores.
Addressing media persons at District Police Lines (DPL) Jammu, the SSP Jammu Joginder Singh said that 175 FIRs under the NDPS Act were registered during the period, making it the highest number of such cases registered by any district in Jammu and Kashmir.

Of these, he said, 71 FIRs were registered against habitual drug addicts who were also involved in peddling narcotics, while seven cases involved commercial quantities of drugs.
The SSP said several major drug suppliers, including Gulzar Ahmad alias Lau Gujjar, Navjot Singh alias Bablu, Dilbagh Singh, Avneet Singh, Sandeep Sharma, Sunny Sharma, Sharif Hussain, Hanif Hussain and Zakir Choudhary, were arrested during the crackdown.
He said one drone-dropping incident linked to narcotics was reported in the last 50 days, taking the total number of such incidents in Jammu district this year to three.
He said police have also seized 37 vehicles, frozen 26 bank accounts and recovered around 125 grams of gold during action against drug traffickers.
Attachment and demolition proceedings involving properties linked to drug peddlers are also underway, he said.
Giving an overall crime overview, the SSP said 273 FIRs have been registered in Jammu district during the last 50 days compared to 204 FIRs registered during the entire previous year, reflecting intensified police action against criminal activities.
He said police have recommended cancellation of 27 driving licences, 143 vehicle registrations, one passport and 218 Aadhaar cards of individuals involved in drug-related offences strictly in accordance with the directions of the Home Department of the UT.
Recommendations have also been made for withdrawal of Government subsidies for 113 such persons, he said.
The SSP added that police are expediting destruction of seized narcotics and strengthening investigations through specialised training of Investigating Officers.
Under the Excise Act, he said, 18 FIRs were registered and 21 persons arrested during the 50 days period.
