AKHNOOR, July 31: The body of an Army jawan, who attained martyrdom during heavy shelling and firing by Pakistani troops along the LoC in Nowshera sector, was cremated with full military honours at his native village Gigryal in Akhnoor today.
Besides relatives and family friends, thousands of people from Akhnoor, Jourian and Khour area joined the funeral procession of the martyr and paid him tributes.
General Officer Commanding, Crossed Swords Division, Major General, R Dewan, paid rich tributes to Naik Krishan Lal during a wreath laying ceremony held at Akhnoor in the outskirts of the city.
The tricolour-wrapped coffin of the 34-year-old soldier was taken to his home Ghagriyal in Khour area of Akhnoor sector in a Military vehicle. He is survived by his wife Shashi Devi and a minor son, studying in class 4th. Naik Lal was killed as Pakistani troops violated ceasefire and resorted to firing and shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Sunderbani area of Nowshera Sector on Tuesday.
Thousands of people lined up on both sides of the road in his village to receive the body and chanted slogans in praise of his sacrifice for the nation.
Emotional scenes were witnessed during the last rites as his close relatives opened the coffin to have his last glimpse. His brother Jagdish Lal, a retired soldier and Krishan Lal’s minor son lit the pyre presenting brave face. The last rites were performed with full military honour. The officers from Civil Administration also joined the last rites of the martyr.
