Army officer dies en route Mata Vaishno Devi shrine

KATRA, June 8: A young Army officer of Major rank, who was brother of J&K Cadre IAS officer Sushma Chouhan and brother in-law of Simrandeep Singh- former Deputy Commissioner Jammu,   died en route Mata Vaishno Devi cave shrine after he fell from a pony near Adhkuwari, here this morning.
The deceased, namely  Major Pardeep Singh (36), son of  Brig  Kamal Singh Chauhan, resident of Shaim Nagar Kanpur (UP),  was presently  posted at  87 Brigade  Udhampur.
He along with his family was coming from Mata Vaishno Devi Bhawan after paying obeisance at the cave shrine when he fell from pony near Indarprasth Adhkuwari, this morning around 8 a.m.
He was immediately shifted to dispensary at Adhkuwari where doctors declared him as brought dead, informed SSP Reasi, Tahir Bhat.
Even as immediately after receiving information about the accident, senior officers of the Shrine Board rushed to Adhkuwari and on the directions of Chairman of the Shrine Board, Governor N N Vohra, a helicopter was also kept stand by at Katra helipad for shifting the injured to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Kakryal, life of the injured officer could not be saved.
Despite best efforts of the doctors at Adhkuwari Dispensary, the injured officer could not be revived and he was declared as brought dead, said an official spokesman.
Later, the dead body was shifted to Community Health Centre, Katra, and after all procedural formalities, it was handed over to the family of the deceased officer.
Governor N N Vohra has expressed sympathy with the bereaved family of Major Chauhan and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
Ajeet Kumar Sahu, Chief Executive Officer of the Shrine Board, who was present all along and supervised the shifting of the injured officer first to Medical Unit, Adhkuwari and thereafter his body to Community Health Centre, Katra, has also expressed grief over the demise of Major Chauhan.
