Army man booked for raping woman on pretext of marriage

JAMMU, Oct 22: An army man has been booked for raping a woman on the pretext of marriage in Gharota area of the district.
A police official said that on the complaint of a woman from lower caste, who hails from Golda Village in Maira Mandrian area, one Rohit Singh of Pargwal has been booked in case FIR number 98/2024 under the relevant sections of the law at Police Station Gharota.
According to the police official, the accused allegedly came in contact with the woman through social media platform Instagram and later committed the crime with the woman for three years on the pretext of marriage.
After three years, when the woman asked him to marry, the latter refused, he said.
Followed by this, the woman approached Police Station Gharota and lodged a formal complaint after which investigation was started and the accused booked under the law, said the police official, adding that the accused is yet to be arrested.
Further investigation into the case is underway, he added.
