Srinagar Apr 6: Police last evening arrested an Army man for allegedly raping a woman in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
A Territorial Army man, Showkat Ahmad Malik of village Trehgam, forcibly entered into a residential house near his army unit at Zurhama in Kupwara district and allegedly raped a woman.
Woman who was inside her room raised alarm but the army man allegedly raped her before neighbours rushed in. Sources said locals caught hold of the army man and thrashed him.
Residents informed the Police who reached the spot and arrested the man.
A case under FIR No. 19/2014 under Section 458, 376 RPC has been registered against army man and further investigations taken up.
Police sent the woman for medical examination and medical report has reportedly confirmed the rape.
