SRINAGAR : An Army jawan was killed and another was injured when militants fired at a patrolling party in the frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara, official sources said here today.
They said militants attacked an Army patrolling party with automatic weapons at Baran Top in Kalaroos in Lolab, Kupwara. One Army jawan was killed on the spot while another was injuried. The injured jawan was rushed to the hospital. Security forces also retaliated but the militants managed to escape, they said, adding a massive hunt has been launched to nab the militants responsible for the attack. Army has been conducting search operations in this frontier district for the last 15 days, which has resulted in many encounters between security forces and militants. With this a total number of four soldiers and nine militants have been killed in these encounters. (AGENCIES)
