JAMMU, June 5: Police today arrested an Army jawan and seized fake notes with face value of Rs 53,000 in Gandhi Nagar area of the winter capital.
The Army jawan identified as Sandeep Kumar hailing from Ambala and posted with 18 JAK Riffles (B-Company) deposited Rs 53,000 fake notes in the denomination of Rs 500 in the State Bank of India (SBI), Jammu Cantt branch, SHO Gandhi Nagar police station Rajinder Sharma said.
The alert SBI official noticed that the notes deposited by the Army jawan are fake and immediately called the police, Sharma said, adding that on getting information, police party from Gandhi Nagar police station rushed to the spot and arrested the Army jawan with Rs 53,000 fake currency.
The case has been registered at Gandhi Nagar police station and case is under investigation, SHO added.
