JAMMU, May 11: An Army jawan allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his barrack at the Army camp in Digiana area of city outskirts.
According to a police spokesperson, a Sapper (Sepoy) of an Engineering Regiment was found hanging last night inside his barrack by his fellow Sappers. They rushed him to the Military Hospital in Satwari area of Jammu, where he was declared as brought dead.
“The deceased has been identified as Vale Murgan, a resident of Madurai in Tamil Nadu. After conducting postmortem at Government Medical College and Hospital, (GMCH) Jammu, this morning, the body was handed over to Army authorities”, he said, adding a case under 174 CrPC has been registered at police station Gangyal and further investigations are on.
According to the Army sources, the Sapper had got married on January 26 this year and was on 2-month leave from January to March. The sources further said that the Army too has ordered a Court of Inquiry into it.
