JAMMU, May 10: An Army jawan was found dead under mysterious circumstances in outskirts of this winter capital, late last night. Alleging that the jawan was murdered, family members today staged protest demanding arrest of the accused.
According to SHO Kanachak, the dead body of the Jawan identified as Sunny Ram (22) son of Bachchan Lal, a resident of Rajpura camp falling under the jurisdiction of police station Kanachak, was found in mysterious circumstances late last night at a road on Malpur area near Sua No 1. He said prima facie it appears to be a case of accident as the bike of the jawan in damaged condition was also lying on the road.
He said on getting reports from some passerby, a police team immediately reached the spot and shifted the dead body of the deceased jawan at Government Hospital Akhnoor where postmortem was conducted today and the body was handed over to family members for last rites.
The officer said that the Jawan was posted at Amritsar in Punjab and was on leave.
Meanwhile, alleging that it was a murder, the parents of the jawan along with neighbours this morning staged protest and blocked the Jammu-Akhnoor Road at Sua No 1. Alleging that the jawan was done to death by his wife who has not good relations with her husband since their marriage, they demanded a thorough probe and arrest of the culprit besides re-postmortem of the deceased Jawan at Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu.
The senior officers of the police including SP City, Uttam Chand who is also holding the charge of SP Rural, visited the spot and pacified the protestors by assuring a through probe into the matter.
When contacted that SP City, Shiv Kumar Chauhan said that the police has registered a case under section 279, 304 A and started investigations. He said the wife of the jawan was also called for questioning and the body of the jawan was shifted to mortuary room of GMCH Jammu, for re-postmortem as per the demand of the parents and neighbours of the deceased.
He said the postmortem will be conducted tomorrow by a board of doctors.
