Army jawan deserts unit with weapon

JAMMU, July 8: An Army soldier has deserted his unit in Udhampur along with service weapon and ammunition. Police have alerted Railway Stations, Bus Stands and other places to trace the jawans.
The deserter has been identified as Srikant Tukaram son of Tukaram Shakar R/o Joo Nandu Rakhi, Thane, Maharashtra.
He deserted ASC unit in Udhampur along with one Insas weapon and 60 rounds.
Police said they have received a report from the Army on deserting of his Unit by the jawans along with the weapon and ammunition.
“We have sounded an alert at Railway Stations, Bus Stands and other places to trace the jawan,” police added.
A case has been registered in the desertion at Udhampur police station. However, no reasons have so far been ascertained on the extreme step taken by the Army soldier.
