Army foils infiltration bid, 3 militants killed

Srinagar, Aug 18: Army today foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Tanghdar sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district, killing three militants.
An official said that 6-Garhwal of Army deployed in the forward area in Tanghdar noticed the movement of a group of infiltrating militants near Baltariyan area. He said that they were challenged by the troops leading to a gun battle in which three infiltrating militants were killed.
Sources said it was a group of at least five militants, which tried to sneak in and three of them were killed and two others managed to flee back to Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK). Massive searches have been launched in the area.
In the meantime, India and Pakistani troops traded firing along the LoC in Tanghdar sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district in which one civilian was killed and two others were injured.

An official said that Pakistani troops violated ceasefire in Tanghdar sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district last night and Army retaliated. The intermittent firing is going on in which two civilians were injured after a shell exploded.
The injured, identified as Jahangir Ahmad and Zameer Ahmad – were shifted to a hospital for treatment. The two have been injured due to shrapnels.
A civilian was killed in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) due to the border firing. He has been identified as Zulfikar.
Pakistani troops fired mortar shells in Thajal-Chranda area of Uri in North Kashmir today.
A shell hit the washroom belonging to one Mohammad Hussain son of Taj Mohammad of Thajal, causing some damage to it. However, no loss of life was reported.
And militants attacked a police picket guarding the former National Conference lawmaker at a village in South Kashmir’s Shopian district today.
Militants fired upon the police picket set up in the premises of the residence of Showkat Ahmad Ganie at Chitragam village. The policemen returned the fire, forcing the militants to flee from the spot. The attack took place at around 4.30 am and was aimed at weapon snatching.
A policeman was injured during clashes in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district today.
A policeman was hit by a stone in his head during clashes in Bona Murran area of the district. The clashes erupted after youth pelted a police party with stones in the village. In retaliation, police fired few teargas shells. The injured policeman was identified as Shahanshah. He was soon rushed to district hospital Pulwama for treatment.
Security forces this evening launched searches in in Sheikhpora Mohalla of Tujjar village in Sopore tehsil of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district after inputs about presence of two militants in the village.
The operation is being jointly conducted by the Army, State police and paramilitary CRPF. The residents of the area came out after the searches were launched and pelted stones on the troops leading to clashes. The security forces fired tear smoke to disperse the protesters.
Clashes erupted between protesters and the security forces in Tral township of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district today.
A group of youth pelted stones on the security forces near Court road soon after the culmination of Urs of Shah-e-Hamdan (RA). The security forces lobbing teargas shells to disperse the youth.
