SRINAGAR, May 20: Northern Army Commander, Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi arrived here for three day visit to review security situation in Kashmir ahead of Amarnath yatra.
The Army Commander arrived in Srinagar today on three days visit to Kashmir. His visit comes ahead of Amarnath yatra and at a time when militants are trying to infiltrate into Valley.
The Army Commander accompanied by the Chinar Corps Commander, Lt Gen ADS Aujla visited various locations and formations in South Kashmir today.
He was briefed on Counter Militancy Grid, development works and operational preparedness for Amarnath yatra. He was given detailed presentation of the security for Amarnath yatra and possible threats and measures to deal with them.
The Army Commander during his interaction with the troops over tea complimented the soldiers for the conduct of just operations with precision, ensuring zero collateral damage.
He was appreciative of the excellent soldier – citizen connect activities, which have resulted in overall reduction in the militant recruitments.
Lt Gen Dwivedi later in the day arrived at Chinar Corps Headquarters in Srinagar where he was briefed by Chinar Corps Commander on the overall security situation and measures taken to counter the threat posed by militants and anti-national elements in Kashmir.
The GOC Chinar Corps Commander gave a detailed account of operation conducted in Kashmir valley and along the LoC by Army and other security forces. He was briefed about the operational preparedness of the army.
He was also briefed about the militant waiting on the launch pads across the LoC in Pakistan occupied Kashmir and measures taken by the Army to counter the threat. He was also given briefing about the measures taken to strengthen the counter infiltration grid. The GOC told the visiting Commander that Army is doing round the clock patrolling of the LoC and its adjacent areas to prevent any infiltration attempt.
The Northern Commander would be visiting forward posts on the LoC and the other areas of hinterland to review the overall security situation in the Kashmir in next two days.
