Army chief visits Kupwara, briefed on situation

SRINAGAR, Jan 1: Army chief General Manoj Pande today began the new year by visiting the troops posted along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara to review their operational preparedness.
An Army spokesman said that the Army chief visited the troops deployed at various locations in the High Altitude Area along the LoC in Kupwara sector.
He said the chief of armed staff interacted with the troops and extended New Year wishes to all ranks and their families.
The Army officers on the ground gave a detailed presentation about the situation along the LoC. He was briefed about the preparedness of the troops deployed along the LoC.
He was briefed about the launch pads that are inside the Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) near the LoC where scores of militants are waiting for the infiltration. He was told that the Army along the LoC is on high alert to counter any such attempts by the militants.
The chief was briefed about the possible infiltration routes and mechanism put in place to foil infiltration attempts. He was told that the Counter-Infiltration Grid along the LoC has been further strengthened as militants are desperate to infiltrate after successful operations in the hinterland in which security forces eliminated top militant leadership.
“The troops along the LoC and in the adjacent areas are conducting round the clock patrolling to prevent the infiltration,” the Army chief was informed.
The army Chief was also briefed about the drug trafficking which is being carried out along the LoC. He was informed that the Army is keeping a tight vigil so that drug trafficking does not take place through the LoC.
Sources said that he was also briefed about the recent busting of a drug trafficking module that was busted in Kupwara in which militants were involved who were using the money for funding militancy.
